Welcome to the here and now. To the interval suspended between depth and surface, frame and canvas, background and figure. The body is the instrumental limit of the space machine. The individual is a subproduct of massive organisations. Form and function are distilled in its dual role of user and operator. Its calm is a fissure in the order of fixed movements. Its singularity is reassimilated in demographic indices. In a series of durations and locations, solitude and anonymity become a ritual of one another. Under the threat of mutual cancellation, all looks are unilateral. The image is an interface, a membrane of separation and contact. The euclidian vision both compresses and rectifies relative differences. The framing is a form of confinement: perspective the trajectory between point of view and point of escape. Lines of tension converge on an artificial horizon. Subjectivity is an optical illusion. Between them, eye and camera succeed in squaring the circle: perpetual motion is achieved by accelerating dead time. Utopia materialises in the very place it is missing, distopia on demand. In the economy of calculated malaise there is no room for approximations. We are , every last one of us, the residue of an operation. Our routines and subroutines are tiny daily holocausts, celebrated in profane temples. The inorganic scenery of the emotional city can be occupied but never inhabited. In the ecology of isolation, signal and noise, system and error, escape and control, all are no more than apparent contradictions. Where there are spectators there are no witnesses.
